Ballater is in the Cairngorms National Park which has stunning scenery and wildlife. The many outdoor activities in the area which can be enjoyed all year include hillwalking, wildlife watching, golfing, cycling, fishing, pony trekking and sightseeing. In winter the ski resorts at the Lecht and Glenshee ski resorts can be easily reached by car and provide ample opportunities to enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and sledging.Popular local attractions include Balmoral Castle (seasonal tours), Crathie Church, the Royal Lochnagar Distillery, Loch Muick and Lochnagar, Deeside Activity Park, Loch Kinord and Burn O’Vat, Glen Tanar, and Braemar (location of the famous Braemar Gathering in September).
